Posted in Company News with tags , , on September 23, 2010 by jebandcompany

We are proud to announce that JEB & Company is now an Authorized Google Apps Reseller.  Over the past year we have implemented several Google Apps installations with great success.   We have completed the necessary requirements from Google and can now move forward as a proud Authorized Google Apps Reseller.

For those of you unfamiliar with Google Apps it is a suite of applications that includes Gmail, Google Calendar (shared calendaring), Google Talk (instant messaging and voice over IP), Google Docs & Spreadsheets (online document hosting and collaboration), Google Sites (team site creation and publishing), Start Page (a single, customizable access point for all applications), and Google Video.

Google Apps is also a great way to create your branding identity on the Internet. If you are currently using an email address that is not tied to your company name (ex: Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, Cox, AOL, Qwest, etc). You are probably not aware of how inexpensive it is to have your own email with your company name – for example name@yourcompany.com .

This can all be accomplished in a very short period of time (usually one day) and it is very affordable. All that you need is a domain and Google Apps. If you do not have a domain, you can purchase one for less than $10 at domainsbyjeb.com Once you have a domain we can configure Google Apps for your new identity.

Google Apps is a great suite of applications for business of all sizes.  Over 3 million companies have gone Google.  You should too!

For more information on Google Apps, please feel free to contact JEB & Company.  We would be happy to help you with your needs.

Android Gains Market Share on Everyone Else

Android Gains Market Share on Everyone Else [REPORT].

The Smartphone battle is heating up.  Google’s Android continues to to gain market share.   Android has its sights on Apple’s iOS.  The new Google vs. Apple battle is strating to remind me of the 1990′s battle between Microsoft and Apple.  We all know that turned out.  Apple lost the battle and Microsoft became the giant that it is today.

But why is Android gaining market share over iOS?  Android phones are available on multiple phones and for every US vendor.  iOS is available on one phone and you can only use that phone (legally) on AT&T.  I think that if Apple were to open up iOS to other phones and carrires we would see a level playing field.  But Apple is too controlling to allow this to happen.  So Android will continue to gain on iOS and could be moving into the #2 spot in 2011.  Then it will try to knock off RIM and Blackberry.

What do you think Apple should do hold off Google’s Android?

10 More Reasons Why You Should Be Using Google Chrome

Posted in Fun, Tech Tips with tags , , on September 10, 2010 by jebandcompany

I know that it is so 1990′s to be taking about browser wars, but a small one has been brewing for the past few years.  This month Google Chrome celebrated its 2nd birthday and it keeps getting better with age.  While Internet Explorer is still the #1 browser being used and Mozilla Fire Fox comes in at #2, Google Chrome is moving up in the rankings.   Earlier this summer Chrome moved past Apple Safari into #3 in the rankings.

When Chrome was first released it did have some compatibility issues.   I even removed it from my computer as I was having difficulty getting things done with it.  But over the past two years it is improved greatly, and it is back on my computer once again and I could not be more pleased.

Chrome is available for PC, MAC, and Linux.  Give it a try I am sure that you will love the experience.  You can download Google Chrome for free here. Then once you have Chrome installed and running take a look at these 10 Killer Google Chrome Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts.

Apple to address iPhone 4 issues on Friday

Posted in Tech News, Tech Toys with tags , , on July 15, 2010 by jebandcompany

Tomorrow when Steve Jobs takes the stage for his press conference, it will not be the typical Steve Jobs show.  Mr. Jobs is one of the best speakers and delivers excellent presentations.  But tomorrow he will be addressing iPhone users and potential iPhone users about the current issue with the new iPhone 4 and its external antenna.

When the iPhone 4 was released last month, there was an immediate issue with the signal strength.  The iPhone 4 was redesigned and the antena was now built in to the exterior for the phone.  While this should have led to better reception, it has done the opposite.  If the phone is held a certain way, the reception is lowered and calls can be dropped.  Apple’s first response was to hold the phone a different way or to purchase a bumper for $29.  Apple has also said it is a software issue that can be corrected, and also threw AT&T under the bus ans said their calculations were incorrect.

Earlier this week Consumer Reports came out and said that they can’t recommend iPhone 4 I think that this was the final blow that now has prompted Steve jobs and Apple to finally face the music and address the issue.  Two big questions will be asked, Did Steve Jobs Knowingly Ignore iPhone 4 Reception Issues?. and will there be a recall?

Should be an interesting press conference.

After over a year of keeping Google Voice closed to people by invitation only, Google Voice is now opened to the public.  Google Voice is a free service offered to help people manage all of their phone numbers.  When you sign up for a Google Voice account you pick a phone number that is the only number that you will ever need.  You then point all of your existing phone numbers (home, office, cell, and any others that you want)  to your Google Voice number. Basically you have one phone number for all of your needs and then you can tell Google Voice how to route your calls.

With Google Voice you can make free calls to anywhere in the US or Canada.  Some of the other features are, Voice mail to email with call transcription, free text messaging, caller screening, call recording and transcription, and a easy to use control panel.  Additionally Google offers a free app for you to install on your smart phone to for easy integration.

New Droid to Debut the Day Before iPhone 4 Hits Stores

New Droid to Debut the Day Before iPhone 4 Hits Stores.

The Apple vs. Google battle is in full swing.  Verizon will be unveiling the latest Android phone one day before iPhone 4 is released.  This news tells me a couple of things.  First, Google and Apple are defiantly trying to take control of the smartphone market and that they have each declared war on each other.  Second, there will be no Verizon iPhone anytime soon.  Finally, I might have to wait one more week before I decide what Droid phone I get to replace my current iPhone.  I was leaning towards the new Sprint EVO, but now I must wait.

This should get real interesting next week.

Hello Google Apps, Hello Real Collaboration

Posted in Tech Tips with tags , , , on May 13, 2010 by jebandcompany

Official Google Blog: Hello Google Apps, hello real collaboration.

At the core Google Apps are a suite of Office applications that you use on the web and are very cost effective option to Microsoft Office.  But Google Apps are so much more!  First off Google Apps gives your company the ability to have a email server and email accounts for all of the people in your company.  No more sending email from your hotmail or gmail account.  But email is just the start.  You can begin to collaborate with everyone in you organization with shared calendars, contacts, sites and talk.

A huge feature with Google Apps is the ability to work on documents with others online.  Google Docs lets you manage and track changes to all types of office documents; Word Processor, Spreadsheets, and Presentations.  More importantly Google Apps does not require expensive hardware or software to run as it is all located “in the cloud”.

Google Apps gives you so much and you will be surprised to know that it is very affordable for Small Businesses.  Additionally it helps with your business identity if you currently do not have your own email service.  All that you need is a domain and Google Apps.  If you do not have a domain, you can purchase one for less than $10 here.

If you would like more information on Google Apps and how to get started please feel free to contact us.

Android Now Outselling iPhone

Posted in Tech News with tags , , , , , on May 10, 2010 by jebandcompany

Android Now Outselling iPhone [REPORT].

I knew that the Android OS was doing well, but not this well.  If you have not had a chance to get your hands on an Android phone, do it.  You will be impressed. The number might change again after the iPhone OS4 comes out next month, but since Apple is still keeping it only on AT&T, the iPhone growth can’t grow too much.  Whereas Google Android phones are available for every major US carrier.

You would think that this would be a wake up call to Mr. Jobs and Apple, but no.  Apple wants to control everything, so they are locking down their iPhone to AT&T only.   But they are really starting to upset a lot of customers, due to AT&T’s poor service.

Another thing that really blew me away was the fact that good old Blackberry is still on top with 36% of the market share.
